The all important wedding reception! It should be flawless, beautiful, exciting and fun! How do you ensure things run smoothly, without any mishaps? Easy! Ask the right questions! Keep in mind, the on-site planners for reception halls are still salespeople, on top of being very knowledgeable and experienced professionals of course, and therefore, you should feel free to ask them the tough questions. You want to make sure you have the best of the best for your special night. Oh and while you’re researching and, essentially, interviewing each reception hall, feel free to bring a pad and pen with you and jot down notes for yourself. In fact, I would highly recommend and encourage that you do this!

Here are some basic questions and requests that you should ask each reception hall representative:

  • Is the time and date available?
  • How long has the reception hall been in business?
    • The longer, the better! A reception halls’ longevity usually means they’re good at what they do and have a good reputation.
  • Ask to see their licenses with both the state and city health departments.
    • Very important! Remember, flawless wedding reception!
  • Ask about their liability insurance (just in case).
  • Ask about a payment plan and what their cancellation policy is.
    • If you cancel early enough and they’re able to rebook the date, you should be able to get your down payment back.

Those were relatively easy questions. If they cannot answer those to your satisfaction, move on! There are plenty of reception halls you can look into! Next, the tougher questions! Click here to go directly to the reception hall qualifying round!
