Reception Halls - How to Choose - Qualifying Round

[For the basic questions, see our earlier post: Reception Halls - How to Choose - The Screening.]
Now it’s time for the tougher questions. These are very important questions that will help with the final decision:
- Will there be more than one reception going on at the same time? If so, is there enough parking space for everyone? Will there be noise interference between the two receptions?
- How many waiters/waitresses will be on hand?
- Request an approximate ratio of waitstaff per number of guests. Ideally, it should be 1 waitperson per 8 guests or less.
- Also request an approximate ratio of bartenders per number of guests. The ratio should, ideally, be 1 bartender per every 30 guests or so.
- Are valet, coat check and bathroom attendants included in the quoted price?
- They should be.
- Are linens, chair covers, china, silverware, etc. included in the quoted price? Or are there additional fees?
- Important to know when budgeting!
- At the bar, what brands of liquor will be available? Are all types of drinks (mixed, blended, etc.) going to be available?
- Decide if you want an open or cash bar. (More on this in our budgeting section.)
- Is the wedding cake included in the quoted price?
- Or better yet, what exactly is included in the quote price? And get this in writing!
- Is there a Bridal Suite for the bride and groom to change into their going-away clothing? (Or other bridal outfits)
- For an evening affair, what is their anticipated total time for a wedding reception? What if the reception goes over that allotted time? Is there an extra charge?
There you have it! All the questions that you’ll need to find the perfect reception hall to host your wedding reception!
Once you’ve asked all these questions to each reception hall you’re considering, take a moment (or a few) to really analyze and compare the offerings of each reception hall. Pick the one that offers the best for your money and where the on-site planner is personable and friendly. That’s the winning combination for reception halls. The only pieces left to complete the wedding reception are your guests and, well, you and your fiance(e)!
