Honeymoon in Space: The New Frontier

Ahh the honeymoon! Blissful, private or at least semi-private newlywed-time! Usually these things are weeks-long vacation-like trips to some exotic or otherwise amazing location. And if your goal for your honeymoon is many hours uninterrupted, there is a place you and your new hubby or wife can run or fly to to achieve peaceful tranquility after the hectic time of planning your beautiful wedding.
That place is called space…yes the vast unknown, but very peaceful and tranquil! Private too! We’ve all heard that Virgin, owned by Richard Branson, is rolling out his form of out-of-this-world travel with the introduction of Virgin Galactic but here’s a new way to look at it: honeymoon in space on Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo!
Just imagine being perfectly coiffed in your wedding dress dancing and glowing from the light of the sun while gazing at good ol’ Earth. Quite an experience, no? Well, more than likely you wouldn’t be wearing your lovely white wedding dress. Instead, you’d probably be wearing something similar to the uniform-like number below and you’d probably be sitting in a vessel that has an interior similar to the wavy thing below:
So how much is this once-in-a-lifetime, out-of-this-world wedding gift to each other? Well, the tickets themselves are $200,000 each, with a $20,000 deposit per ticket. For those adventure travelers out there, this is probably worth the pricetag. You could have it just you and your bride/groom or you can include 4 other passengers for a more familiar type of setting. Either way, two pilots would accompany you on your honeymoon at 360,000 feet above Earth. Cool, huh? Well you’ll have to wait until at least the end of 2007 when they have their first test flights.
Leaving from a spaceport in California, the newlyweds would have to prepare ahead of time for their honeymoon, and we don’t mean just financially or emotionally. The new husband and wife (and any passengers) must undergo training including zero-gravity exercises over the course of three days. After those three days, you’ll be ready to go up into space. But don’t expect this to be one of those weeks-long vacation-like trips that most honeymoons are like. Not at all, this wedding gift to yourselves will be a total of 2.5 hours. Short, yes, but at least you don’t have to worry about packing!
