Wedding Photography: The Good, The Bad, The Almost Posed

Perusing through our favorite sites, we came across this very useful, very interesting commentary on wedding photography in today’s time. Slate Magazine rolled out a “wedding week” issue, if you will, and offered some interesting insights into the wedding of our time. Most useful, in our opinion, is their slideshow on wedding photography.
Writer Eliza Truitt thoroughly examines the differences, pros and cons of wedding photography styles: traditional versus photojournalism. A few of the things she mentions are very important to keep in mind while viewing a photographer’s portfolio when you’re looking to hire someone for your wedding. No matter how well it seems he/she can capture the mood or feeling of a moment, technical skills are crucially important! So make sure that your wedding photographer has the technical chops of a true traditionalist with the flare of a photojournalist, not the other way around! Click here to check it out!

What other lovely prose do they offer? Well there’s an article on wedding gifts. That is certainly a good read too! While it may be against traditional wedding etiquette to request money for your wedding, since times have changed so much, it isn’t a complete social faux-pas to do so. A paid-for or partially-paid-for honeymoon is one way to go without stepping on too many people’s toes. And if you consider common wedding gifts that guests give to newlyweds these days, it’s either from the wedding registry or cash, usually enough to pay for their own dinner at the reception. For more commentary, read their article here.
For other interesting wedding reads, check out the rest of their wedding issue here. What would we recommend you read?
- For an interesting, albeit aggravating to some, article on bachelor parties, aka stag night, read what Troy Patterson has to say here.
- For those minimalists out there or first-time homeowners, read their article on wedding registries to ensure you request whatever household items you may need.
