These little cards, do you need them for your wedding? Could you do without? Well, that depends on the size and formality of your wedding ceremony.

For a small, intimate wedding ceremony, I would say go without. With small ceremonies, more than likely the guests can just tell the ushers which side they “belong” to: either bride or groom. And since it’s an intimate wedding, specific seating probably isn’t necessary. If only some guests are invited to the reception later, do include a reception place card like the one above.

Ceremony cards are simple since they give a pew number and roughly a seat “number”. These are useful for larger weddings where the bride and groom want certain guests seated in particular spots, especially very close, very dear friends or relatives.

The ceremony card is placed in front of the invitation, facing away from the receiver. Well, that’s the way custom dictates anyway. However, more than likely, most guests won’t notice if you place it facing them. The important thing is, however, to place the ceremony card, or any other small card, ie: RSVP, reception card, map, directions, etc., in front of the larger wedding invitation. Also important, make sure the ceremony cards are printed on the same paper and in the same style as the wedding invitation. Very important!
